How long will I have to wait?
My body aches with subtle discouragement and doubt. Will the answer to my prayer ever show it’s face on this side of heaven? (I’m starting to wonder.) I’ve prayed. I’ve waited. And boy do I feel the weight of the wait! You?
Is there something you’re ”all-prayed-out” over? You’ve been working on something, you’ve planted seeds, you’ve laid the foundation, you’ve wrestled and pleaded with God for days, weeks, maybe years, and your fire is fading.
I know God is in control and has a grand plan bigger than I can see, but I need an emotional lift and shift. A pep to return to my weary step. Surely it’s not just me?
I wrote my last devotion about prayer opening the door to peace (click to read). But, what if discouragement still lurks in the lengthy silence? How do we find the encouragement we need to revive our souls and keep running the race? Peace is great (I’m always craving that), but sometimes it makes me want to sleep, and right now this life demands more than me snoozing days away. This weary one needs to load up on some energy, strength, and courage. Do you get that?
Ok then, first, let me drop a reminder to us both that prayer can do that too. Communication with God opens ALL his gifts. Whether it’s courage and you need to take the next step, energy to keep waiting, or strength to stand up and fight… God will lend you his spirit to give you, maybe not necessarily what you want, but surely always what you need.
Stay alert, stay in communication with him, and stay open to his blessings. He will fill you with his hopeful spirit, send you his helpful people, and supply you his promising words.
Let’s take this truth with us today… God is, and will be, with you wherever you go, and HE IS the perfect encourager to fight your discouragement while you wait. So seek him.
Reflect:
Are you feeling discouraged while you wait? Have you been seeking “The Ultimate Encourager,” his spirit, words, and people to lift you up?
Pray:
Lord God, Discouragement is swelling within me. I know you see it. And I know you’re there. Fill me full of awareness of your sturdy presence to strengthen my spirit. Thank you for being the perfect encourager, and for your promise to never leave my side. In your mighty name, Amen.
Seek the word:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7) “Do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9b)
Have a blessed week!
