Do you need answers? Help with what to do? Wishing, hoping, praying God would clearly voice specific insight and direction concerning something that’s been swirling around in and suffocating your thoughts?
I get it. I desperately want to hear from God. Yet, countless colliding calls compete for my attention, time, and energy. So much and so many that they can’t possibly all be from him. To make matters murkier, I’m struggling to be still enough to discern and learn the difference. Inactivity would feel like disobedience. I mean all the murmuring to-dos and options sound so good, but if I deny them to linger longer and listen, surely, I am denying something I should be doing. Something for him.
I do want to please God above all else. But, wait…
What if he doesn’t need me as much as I think? Am I giving myself too much credit for bringing to action the change the earth and her people ache for?
Convicted. The world is not the work of “my” hands. It’s God’s.
Yes. He is in control. He gifts me sharing in the joy of carrying out his glory story. But his will will be done with or without me. Could it be I’m seeking his help and can’t hear it because of my relentless unsurrendered exhaustion? Maybe above all God is speaking, “Simply rest.” And the majority of clamoring voices are the enemy’s deceiving attempt to use godly masks and deter me from resting with my Savior. My only true escape of refuge and fill-up for clearly hearing and equipping for his work.
Rest is what I most deeply long for in the core of my soul. I bet your heart yearns for this peaceful refreshment too. Yes? So if an underlying within is nudging you to let life go and “just come,” how about responding, “yes” today? The Word says this choice will never be wasted. Together, let’s give that divine whisper a listen. A trial, and then trust. Putting down everything else pulling us elsewhere.
After all friend, the sovereign good God has you. And me. He, not we, has all that we perceive isn’t being addressed. All that appears dark and in need of light.
And in your holy absence from task mode, remember this. He can’t possibly love you any less. Regardless. There is no condemnation for any of his children. That’s you.
Follow the voice that says “Child, sit with me.” God’s voice. He loves you, and wants your heart. 100% of it. More than anything else. And when he’s ready, he will give you the guidance, strength, and assurance to move forward. On his behalf… in your purposed direction.
Reflect:
Do you hear a collision of voices and wonder if one is, “Be still?” Are you willing to trust that God wants you to be with him, more than he needs you to busy yourself for him today?
Pray:
Lord Jesus, I want to do my best by you. I want to spend my time honoring you, and in such a way that blesses those around me and fuels your good plan for my future. But life fills me full of clutter and chaos and I fall into confusion. Help me to always hear your voice saying, “Come to me.” Give me confidence that my stillness with you will always be used for good, will guide me toward your best for my life, and that you have all things under your control. In your marvelous name, Amen.
Seek the Word:
She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. (Luke 10:39)
There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her. (Luke 10:42 NLT)
Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:12-13)
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. (Jeremiah 33:3)
Have a blessed week!
