I stared out the window, covered in my favorite plush throw, candle lit beside me to warm my morning quiet time with the Lord. I began pouring out the doldrums of a sleepy start to a new week, when I was prompted with conviction.
So many of the things I was once convinced would make me happy, are surrounding me this very day.
Let that sink in for a minute… So much I have prayed for in the past, I now have.
But yet, I’ve found myself lately fixed on “more.” Positive I would be content, if…
I had a little more money.
My kids were a bit more manageable.
My house was a touch more up-to-date, organized, clean.
This aging body was more feeble, fit, and pain-free.
I could go on and on. And I bet you have a wish list of “more” in the recesses of your heart too.
But back to the convicted thought that snuck into my soul when I ping-ponged over what felt off and wrong when I greeted the day. I was sensing an emotional tug toward less-than-happy. And then…
As soon as I shifted to the goodness God had planted into my literal lap and life—his faithful blessings unleashed abundantly over the course of my years that were swelling right around me—and I took notice of the answered prayers and generous love poured in, through, and out of me, I felt smiles begin to wash over my soul.
Is it that simple? I’m starting to learn it is.
Happiness is closer than we think.
You don’t have to wait until your list of more is met. God has already been faithful. He gave and he gives and he will give again. Set your eyes today on what he has lavished over your life. And rejoice.
I pray you’ll allow your heart to shift today toward his goodness, and let the light of happiness in him fill your soul.
Reflect:
What is surrounding you or has already happened in your life that you once wanted? Think of your simple childhood dreams or requests ten or two years ago. What prayers has God answered?
Pray:
Lord God, You have given me so much. I confess I too often long for more, and lose sight of your faithfulness. Help me see what you have done out of your lavish love. Remind me you have already given me so much more, and there is more to come. I praise you, Lord. In your generous name, Amen.
Seek the Word:
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17)
You have granted him his heart’s desire and have not withheld the request of his lips. (Psalm 21:2)

LORD God only you
As I sit I feel the air slip through the window. It wraps around me feeling Ike silk bringing a smile to my face. Only You LORD can bring such joy and comfort in the stillness of the early morning. You make it personal to be mine alone.
Thoughts of the day ahead of me now a flutter because thoughts of You joining me this morning gives new meaning to the day ahead.
I am no longer alone and I am aware that I never need feel alone because You are always there.
It’s not you Lord that slips away it’s me. Please help me to remember it no longer has to be just me.
The birds are singing the air makes me feel so alive. You are all about me and will always be. Your word brought to life I am in awe because You surround me.
The seasons will change the pallets of your landscape will change bringing new meaning with each passing day. Such joy in seeing the changes in me and all that is before me.
Thank you Lord Jesus for joining me this day bringing the reminder you are here with me every day.
Psalm 136:1
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever.
Beautiful inspiration from the Lord! And I am thankful the words he brought me blessed you too!
