I tend to get insistently impatient to unwrap the mysteries of my future. And boy would it be divine if God would hand me a daily to-do list, stat, so I could run full speed and check off all the right tasks moving me quicker to the carrot of purpose dangling at the completion of the mission. Where the sweet fruit of labor is finally found and the harvest ripe for reaping.
Why wait? Let’s get to it! Right? To the good stuff. Not to mention, the slow and steady of sloth-ish baby steps feels torturous.
Do you ever feel stuck in the thick mud, dreaming of a better future? And maybe a bit frustrated with the lack of progress that meets the eye? Dying for a specific direction and shortcut to get where you “think” God wants you. And faster.
I’ll tell you. I have this anxious sense. As if I know what I need and want, and I’m pretty certain that’s where God’s pointing me. But the pause, delays, and drawn-out timeline can be brutal.
Nevertheless, I’ve become convicted. Again and again, in fact.
There’s a huge problem with this thought process, and in my sorry attitude to be honest.
The truth is…
God has a predetermined plan for the future. I mean, he already knows what the harvest will look like, when it will be ready, and how vast it will be. Complete with the perfect timing nailed to a T. And it’s a good plan. One I can’t alter with my kicking, screaming, or persistent pleading.
Our gracious God also has treasures right in front of me I’m missing while I set my focus too hard on the foggy distance. Purposefully placed blessings in my current midst. Including his constant comforting presence and a sweet promise of the greatness to come.
So today, will you cling with me to the truth that he has grand somethings in the making–of HIS making? Together let’s hear and heed his desire to open our hearts wide to the abundant purpose of today while he unfolds the perfection of all our tomorrows.
Reflect:
Do you get anxious to get on with what’s next? And does your resolve to control disrupt your peace? Well can you consider letting go a little, and clinging to what God has in front of you today a little more?
Pray:
Lord God, I make myself so crazy trying to do your job. I strive to figure things out ahead of their time–ahead of your time. But, I really do want what you want. And I know you’re working on the good of my future. Forgive me for running past and away from you. God, I trust you. Thank you for the perfection you are planning. In your great name, Amen.
Seek the Word:
He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. (Acts 1:7)
There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. (Proverbs 23:18)
In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, (Ephesians 1:11)
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
Have a blessed week!
