Do you ever wonder why you struggle so much? When others seem to roll through life’s punches with ease.
Year after year I pondered this perplexing question about myself.
And when I started noticing it wasn’t always necessarily that my circumstances were worse off than “hers,” I then got caught up in the angst of something-must-really-be-wrong-with-me self reflections.
Why do I feel bummed when others are beaming with smiles of contentment? What’s with my lingering worry when fellow believers radiate unshakable trust in whatever God plants in their path?
Was I missing something?
Well maybe I was. Maybe you too, if you can relate to this nagging introspection.
But here’s what I’ve learned. My struggle, your struggle, is a gift. Our weakness is a gift.
And noting that God uses all things for good, this certainly applies to the weakness he uniquely allowed you to wrestle with.
God uses our flaws and fragility to remind us how much we need him. So that we will rely harder on him, to make us stronger, to reveal his faithfulness… and so that we may encourage others who are feeling weak. (Yes, sometimes it’s not even about you.)
So let’s do that today…
Lean on him.
Find your strength in him.
Thank him for his faithfulness.
And go find someone to love and encourage.
Reflect: Do you ever feel weak and wonder why? Have you considered it may be a gift to later reveal something greater? Or to help you, “help” someone?
Pray: Lord God, my weakness is a difficult companion. I long for what’s simpler and smooth, but I know through my struggles you have gifted me a precious deeper need for you. Because of this, I am growing in intimacy with you and I thank you for this invaluable treasure. Help me find strength in you and be a light to others… for your sake. They need you, just as I did, I do, and I always will. In your protective name, amen.
Seek the Word: “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
