Stuck in the monotony of life.
I found myself there one afternoon, and battled with the all-to-familiar internal grumble as text messages flew in. From my sister and parents, both from beautiful places I abruptly became aware that I’d “rather” be. Luscious green golf course views on a brilliantly colored spring day, followed by beach scenes from mom and dad on a carefree getaway in one of my favorite vacation spots.
I wanted everything I saw. Everything “else.” And that was definitely not stuck in the midst of my not-so-exciting reality of house chores, two overtired toddlers, and piles of work that had been put off far too long.
How often do you wish you were somewhere else? Or doing something different? Or being entertained by life‘s frills and “feel goods” over… whatever it is surrounding you?
Here’s the thing though… Yes, these images dreamed of and seen are pleasing, and the views may sparkle with wonder and fancy. But what meets the eye is ALWAYS fleeting. And though you think all that’s flashy, and what others have is what you want, “things of the world” cannot truly satiate, satisfy, and fulfill… and so fall short of what you NEED.
Jesus is the bread of life. (TRUTH.)
As I wrestled with what I thought I “wanted” – all the enticing ideas, objects, and excursions that whispered with the allure of fulfillment – my heart awoke to God’s subtle conviction… I have all you need, and you can have it at this very moment.
Friends, go to Him and receive the fullness you crave… That lasting wholeness found only in God‘s presence and the gifts of His spirit.
Things and circumstances will not last or complete any longing, but God‘s peace, compassion, comfort, love, mercy, and joy are offered in abundance anywhere and anytime. And THAT is all we truly need.
Reflect: What do you want right now in your life? What do you think you really need (that’s lasting) in the eyes of God?
Pray: Lord, I know you want a life of abundance for me, and I know it may look different than what I have in mind sometimes. Help me seek and find my fullness in you alone. Help me to desire and focus on the unlimited gifts you offer that deeply satisfy. Thank you for your continual outpouring of blessings. In your gracious name, Amen.
Seek The Word: Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty…” (John 6:35) For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. (Psalm 107:9)
Have a blessed week!
